It is important to focus on setting goals but it is most important to write down the small steps you need to get there. the small steps will help you to make the ultimate accomplishment. Reward yourself for the small steps because these little successes will grow into bigger successes.

I read a disturbing article in last week's Time Magazine about the rate of high school dropout. One in three high school students leave school and 50% of African Americans and Hispanics drop out too. The article said that Bill Gates is funding an organization to find the solution. The solution to this epidemic is quite simple. It is not the law "No Child Left Behind " but Emotional Intelligence teaching. Dr. Daniel Goleman's 1995 Time Magazine article on the benefits of Emotional Intelligence should be reprinted and schools should find a way in their curriculum to teach these important life skills. Elementary school is the perfect time to teach these skills when children are more receptive to listening.

There is an epidemic and it is not Bird Flu that I am talking about. It's the over-involvement of children and parents today where they hardly have any time to just think and relax. Between the increased homework load,the ever present after school activities,sport obligations, Religious school, after school tutorial programs; it is a wonder children have time to eat dinner. I had such a busy schedule when my teen daughter was younger I decided to cut back. I made that choice and was I ever happy. One reason I made my daughter cut back was that I saw she was getting very stressed out and had more angry outbursts then ever. Once she cut back on an activity she felt more relaxed and less angry. We all have so much in our days that we need to get done and sometimes we feel overwhelmed by it all. I feel you need to write down the five most important things you need to get done and make sure you leave some time for relaxation. If we allow ourselves to pack so much into one day we will feel stressed,angry and possibly angry. Make the choice today to cut back so you have the time just to think and relax.The choice is yours.
