The management of our emotions known as Emotional Intelligence is necessary for proper learning to occur. Author Daniel Goleman stated in a report in 1994, that our fears and envies , our rages ,depressions, our worries and anxieties steer us day to day. It has been shown that even the smartest student academically can be undone by negative emotions. It has been found that 80% of one's success is due to emotional competency and not academic success. So , begin to teach Emotional Intelligence skills as early as possible and see the wonderful benefits.

Gone are the days when children automatically said thank you and called adults Mr. and Mrs. or Miss. Now , they address us with our first names. Also, it seems that they view themselves on the same level as adults. When the above occurs , I feel adults get less respect then years ago. I remember reading that many teachers are leaving due to the lack of respect they get from their students. We as parents need to set limits and be firm and regain our status as parents.

It is that dreaded time of year ; the start of August and parents and children seem to feel stress thinking school is coming soon. Is it the homework,tests or the fear of meeting new people? The answer could be a combination of all three . Whatever the reason , you need to know what to do to prepare yourself. First off, take a deep breath and tell yourself change is good and exciting. You should also tell yourself you can do anything you set your mind to. Keeping a positive outlook will make you less tense and happier. If you are going to a new school , go and check it out once or twice before you start. You should learn where the different rooms are and this will definitedly help. Also, if you are concerned about the work, review some math and keep reading books to get back into school material. Also, remember that life is full of change for you and for everyone else. You are not alone in your concerns. Fight fear.
