My son came home upset because he said he is one of the few kids he knows that doesn't have a cell phone. He is only 11 years old. What does he need a phone for? He doesn't drive or date. He says he needs it because everyone else has one. It is the cell phone now and probably a special video console and then a car. Once we as parents, allow this competition to start it doesn't end. It snowballs into bigger material items. Do we borrow just to keep up with the next person ? Children must find contentment from within. Parents shouldn't allow themselves to be bullied by their kids. We should buy what they need because it is what they need not because everyone else has it. Parents must stand up for what they truly feel is right. We should make our children write down all of the things they should be grateful for. Encourage them to think about what they have and not what they don't have. It starts in the home with values.

Ten Minutes a Day to Happiness and Health posted by UNKNOWN

I have a secret that will help you and your children feel healthier and happier. The answer is physical exercise everyday. Children, when they come home from school and in between their homework should do some aerobic exercise. Parents will notice that their children will stay focused longer on their work and be more relaxed at the same time. Parents should join in also and make exercise a family thing everyday. Parents will reap the benefits ,just like children do. In an article in Thursday's Wall Street Journal on November 16th , scientists have found that the way to help brain function of older adults is through aerobic exercise three hours a week. It appears that when a person exercises a person's blood level of a molecule called IGF-1(insulin like growth factor) increases. This molecule increases blood flow to the brain which is good for brain nerons. So, turn the set off for ten or more minutes a day and do some aerobic exercise. You will like the way you feel. Enjoy this natural solution to many problems faced each day.

All parents should cut back on all of their kids extra-curricular activities. Children and teens are stressed out with this over-scheduling. A new survey of Directors at 274 University Counseling Centers found that self-injurious behavior and eating disorders is uo from years ago. Alcohol problems are up 45% alone. Students don't get enough free time just to reflect and relax. Parents should work with their children to scale back on activities and get their children to take time to go outside and enjoy free time. Encourage your children to play some basketball, take a walk and just look outside at the changing leaves. Everyone will be better off. Children and parents.
