| It is so important for parents to help their children solve their own problems by asking them the right questions. If parents solve the problems and not the student, this will develop a dependency on the parent. This is not good and can last a lifetime.
How does a parent foster this independence for their child? The best way is to ask the right questions of their children. The quesitons should start with the words "how", "what,"." tell me more about that," and questions starting with the word "when." I would not use the word "why." This word can put a child on the defensive which will stop all conversation. We don't want to be in a position of lecturing our children, because they will not listen then. All will be lost. Good luck. |
